The data show that in 2025 the deforestation caused by illegal mining within Tambopata, which protects some of the most biodiverse ecosystems on the planet, exceeded 400 hectares. This figure is greater than that recorded during the years considered most critical of the mining invasion, between 2016 and 2017.
It was 2019 when Mother of God occupied the front pages of the newspapers with images showing heavy machinery entering areas taken by illegal mining, police and military personnel deployed in critical points, intervened camps and open pits in the middle of the Amazon forest.
