Perlis MB Suspended From Bersatu
The party said Abu Bakar Hamzah may appeal within 14 days after losing all party posts over alleged breaches of its ethics code.
On October 14, Bersatu suspended Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah for two party election terms, effective immediately under a letter signed by Disciplinary Board chairman Mohd Radzi Manan.
The disciplinary action followed allegations that Abu Bakar breached Clause 9.1.4 and the Members' Code of Ethics and Conduct, resulting in his removal from all party positions and a ban on issuing statements.
Bersatu Perlis chairman Izizam Ibrahim confirmed the suspension after the letter circulated online last week; the Disciplinary Board met October 13 and invoked Clause 22.5 of the party constitution.
Abu Bakar may appeal to the Appeals Board within 14 days of the notice being issued, though he remains barred from issuing statements on behalf of Bersatu during the suspension.
Bersatu currently awaits official decisions from the central leadership and PAS state assemblymen regarding the suspension, as Izizam stated on October 21 that the party continues monitoring the situation.
