UTTAR PRADESH, INDIA, JUL 21 – Yogi Adityanath condemned misconduct by some Kanwar Yatra pilgrims and vowed strict action against miscreants tarnishing the pilgrimage’s reputation amid rising incidents, with over 170 booked in early days.
- On Sunday, July 20, 2025, the head of Uttar Pradesh’s government, Yogi Adityanath, honored Kanwariyas in Meerut by showering them with flower petals during the Kanwar Yatra pilgrimage.
- The incident took place amid reports of violence and the recent detention of three Kanwariyas accused of attacking a CRPF personnel at Mirzapur railway station following a dispute over train tickets.
- Adityanath accused anti-social elements and miscreants of trying to defame Kanwar pilgrims on social media and urged Kanwar associations to unmask and expose such people.
- He highlighted the need for firm government measures against those attempting to sully the Yatra’s reputation, warning that whenever there is strong passion and devotion, certain individuals seek to disrupt that spirit and malign the sacred event.
- The Chief Minister called on the public to inform authorities immediately and warned that those compromising the pilgrimage's sanctity will face legal consequences after the Yatra concludes.
