Flavour Trails Marks 20 Years with Peninsula Food Festival
The two-day event brings together 40 farms, gardens and eateries, with self-guided routes and partner-hosted agritourism experiences across the Peninsula.
Hundreds gathered at the North Saanich Farm Market on Saturday as Flavour Trails celebrated 20 years of showcasing local food, farms and makers across the Saanich Peninsula, with the festival continuing Sunday, Aug. 16.
Hosted by the Capital Region Food and Agriculture Initiatives Roundtable , the event has grown over two decades from a beloved community initiative in North Saanich into a Peninsula-wide program celebrating the region's agricultural partnerships.
The festival brings together 40 participating farms, gardens and eateries across North Saanich, Central Saanich and Saanich, with offerings including guided walks exploring Indigenous foods and plants with W1SNE and Ahousaht ethnobotanist J.B. Williams, cider tastings and orchard tours.
Participants picked up a Hunt Card to complete the 20th Anniversary Flavour Hunt by meeting farmers and tasting local products, while organizers added a surprise element where visitors spotting special buttons can announce "I found a Secret Flavour" to win prizes.
Flavour Trails is launching a broader Season of Flavour this year with events continuing through the summer featuring chef collaborations and farm-to-table meals, while a new Flavour Trails online discovery platform allows visitors to create custom routes throughout the Peninsula.
