Paul Revere’s Midnight Ride to Be Reenacted — but in Broad Daylight and with a Police Escort
The National Lancer’s annual ride will use a police escort and daylight timing as thousands are expected to watch the route, organizers said.
- On Monday, a reenactor traces the route taken by Paul Revere 251 years ago, starting in Boston's North End and passing through Charlestown, Somerville, Medford, and Arlington before finishing in Lexington.
- The National Lancer has held this ride for over 110 years, commemorating the 1775 journey when Revere warned Revolutionary leaders Samuel Adams and John Hancock that British troops were coming.
- Unlike the historic journey, this 21st-century reenactment runs in daytime with a police escort, traversing pavement instead of the muddy, rutted roads Revere navigated while dodging patrols.
- Nina Zannieri, executive director of The Paul Revere House, said, "It's important because you have to have someone to meet the British troops," emphasizing resistance's historical significance.
- Organizer Michelle DiCarlo-Domey noted that interacting with riders and horses helps "carry history on," allowing children to relate to what they learn in school.
