Patrick Surtain II Is Voted the NFL’s Top Cornerback by AP Panel for the Second Straight Year
Surtain received seven of eight first-place votes after allowing 31 catches and a 66.5 passer rating when targeted last season.
Patrick Surtain II was voted the top NFL cornerback for the second straight year by The Associated Press in a preseason survey entering the 2026 season, receiving seven of eight first-place votes.
Surtain has built an impressive resume over five seasons, earning four Pro Bowls and the AP NFL Defensive Player of the Year award after the 2024 season while allowing a 66.5 passer rating in 2025.
Derek Stingley Jr. finished second with one first-place vote, while Quinyon Mitchell and Devon Witherspoon tied for third; Trent McDuffie and Sauce Gardner tied for fifth in the rankings.
Mitchell allowed a 58.4 passer rating, Witherspoon surrendered a 99.8 rating, and McDuffie allowed a 94.7 rating while helping the Chiefs win two Super Bowls during his tenure.
Despite missing three games with a pec strain, Surtain returned for the playoffs to help the Broncos reach the AFC championship game, cementing his elite defensive status entering 2026.
