Negotiators from the European Parliament and the member states are unable to reach an agreement on an update to air passenger rights. For the first time in 13 years, they must reach an agreement in a "Reconciliation Committee". Overnight talks this week broke down because the Parliament is unwilling to compromise on existing consumer rights.
Negotiators from the European Parliament (EP) and the Council of the European Union (EU) suspended talks on air passenger rights reform early Wednesday morning without reaching an agreement, but agreed to resume them in the afternoon, Politico reports.
The reform of passenger rights remains blocked for the time being. There is no agreement in the dispute over compensation for delays. Without compromise by mid-June, the project threatens to fail.
