Parents put own health on backburner to care for children, study finds
A OnePoll survey of 2,000 parents found 71% said delayed care made their health problems worse, while 66% saved sick days for children.
A OnePoll study of 2,000 parents found 80 per cent prioritize their children's health over their own, with half ignoring their own symptoms to focus on their children's needs.
Parenting creates significant stress, with 81 per cent finding family illness stressful, while Dr Naveen Puri, medical director for Bupa, noted parents must balance children's needs with work and household responsibilities.
Working parents are particularly affected, as 66 per cent avoid taking sick days to save time for their children, while 58 per cent continue working through illness rather than recovering.
Nearly a quarter of parents have cancelled medical appointments due to busy schedules, and 71 per cent admitted this delay led to their own health issues worsening and becoming more serious.
To address these challenges, 45 per cent of parents said fast access to medical advice would be helpful, while Puri emphasized that prioritizing their own health is critical for remaining well enough to care for families.
