Paramount Ditches Theatrical Release for The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, Will Now Go Direct to Paramount+ Instead
Paramount+ will exclusively stream The Legend of Aang and Avatar: Seven Havens as part of Avatar Studios' new TV-focused strategy, shifting from an October 2026 theatrical release.
- Paramount has announced The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender will premiere exclusively on Paramount+, dropping its Oct. 9, 2026 theatrical release.
- Amid a history of date changes, Paramount realigned the Avatar franchise as a streaming venture, setting Paramount+ as exclusive for Avatar Studios and shifting the film from Oct. 10, 2025, to Jan. 30, 2026, then Oct. 9, 2026.
- Directed by Lauren Montgomery with Steve Ahn and William Mata co-directing, the film is produced by Latifa Ouaou, Maryann Garger, Bryan Konietzko, Michael Dante DiMartino, and features Taika Waititi and Steven Yeun with Jeremy Zuckerman scoring.
- The change affects Paramount+ as the exclusive home for The Legend of Aang and Avatar projects, altering Paramount's theatrical slate amid plans for at least 15 theatrical releases next year and leaving two other Avatar Studios films uncertain.
- Some fans noted Avatar fans questioned the decision amid anime box-office success in 2025, while Avatar: Seven Havens arrives on Paramount+ with Book 1's 13 half-hour episodes.

Avatar: The Last Airbender fans receive worst present for Christmas as movie plans are scrapped
Just when you thought everything about Paramount, CBS, and the regime change led by Skydance’s David Ellison was totally cooland chill, the corporate-strategy drops on Avatar: The Last Airbender. I can’t play this cool — I am deeply saddened to report that the upcoming feature film The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender will skip its planned theatrical run and land straight on streaming in 2026. Christmas is (mildly) ruined.
