Paramedics found guilty in death of Elijah McClain, who they injected with an overdose of ketamine
Two Denver-area paramedics were convicted of criminally negligent homicide in the 2019 killing of Elijah McClain, a Black man who was injected with an overdose of ketamine after being put in a neck hold by police.
The case sets a potential precedent for future prosecutions of medical first responders and highlights the issue of excessive force.
The verdict comes after protests over the death of George Floyd and renewed scrutiny of law enforcement's treatment of Black individuals.
African-American Elijah McClain died four years ago after a police operation in the US state of Colorado. Two paramedics were sentenced: they had injected the 23-year-old with ketamine.
