Eala's Magical Wimbledon Run Ends in Heartbreaking Centre Court Thriller vs Paolini
Paolini advanced to her third Grand Slam quarterfinal after ending the 21-year-old Filipina's two-hour, 21-minute run and earning a third-round win over top seed Iga Swiatek.
On Monday, Jasmine Paolini defeated Alexandra Eala 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 on Centre Court, ending the Filipina's breakthrough run at Wimbledon in the fourth round.
The 21-year-old Eala gained prominence after stunning defending champion Iga Swiatek in straight sets, becoming the first player from the Philippines to reach a Grand Slam fourth round.
Trading blows for over two hours and twenty minutes, the players matched power and determination before Paolini secured the win, capitalizing on late errors from Eala's racquet in the final set.
Advancing to her third Grand Slam quarterfinal, Paolini will face Ukrainian 12th seed Marta Kostyuk. "I feel so lucky to get this opportunity and get this win," the Italian said.
With temperatures forecast to climb into the 30s at the All England Club, fans described Eala as a "ray of hope for the Philippines" following her inspiring tournament run.
