Marchand scores in OT, Panthers top Maple Leafs to cut series deficit to 2-1
Brad Marchand netted a deflected goal at 15:27 in overtime on Friday, securing a 5-4 victory for the Florida Panthers over the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 3 of their Eastern Conference semifinal in Sunrise, Florida.
The Panthers cut their series deficit to 2-1 after overcoming Toronto’s historically strong record when leading, including no blown playoff leads before this game.
John Tavares scored twice for Toronto, while Morgan Rielly and Matthew Knies also contributed goals, and Evan Rodrigues added two assists for Florida.
Marchand, who remains undefeated in four playoff series against Toronto, remarked, “We just competed the way that we know that we can.” His latest goal in overtime marked the fourth of his career, placing him among the top players in NHL history for most overtime playoff goals scored.
The Panthers’ victory revived their chances in the closely contested series, with Game 4 scheduled Sunday night in Sunrise, Florida.
