‘Jurassic Park’ paleontologist to leave university amid Epstein fallout
John ‘Jack’ Horner left Chapman University after DOJ emails showed his 2012 and 2016 visits to Epstein’s Zorro Ranch and requests for project funding totaling about $15,000.
- On Monday, The Panther first reported Horner's departure from Chapman University, which confirmed John `Jack` Horner is no longer with the institution.
- Emails released by the Department of Justice show Horner visited Jeffrey Epstein's Zorro Ranch in 2012 and sought funding, including a revised request of $8,650.
- Horner said in a public statement that `Epstein was known to me only as a wealthy individual with an interest in science who had made donations to major academic institutions`, and in 2012 emails he thanked hosts and later said he observed `nothing weird or suspicious` and regretted using `girls` to describe students.
- It is unclear whether Horner resigned or was dismissed, the university said, citing standard employment practices; requests for comment went unanswered and Entertainment Weekly could not locate him.
- Horner's cinematic ties complicate reputational fallout as he inspired Dr. Alan Grant and served as a technical consultant on Jurassic Park, though appearing in DOJ files does not imply wrongdoing.
