Pakistan, UAE Agree on Pre-Immigration Clearance to Ease Travel
The pilot system in Karachi enables passengers to complete UAE immigration before departure, improving travel efficiency amid 727,000 annual Pakistani overseas migrants, officials said.
- On January 13, 2026, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and a UAE delegation led by Director General of Customs Al Dara Border Crossing Ahmed Abdullah Bin Lahej Al Falasi agreed to launch a pilot pre-immigration clearance system in Karachi allowing passengers to complete immigration before departure.
- Against a backdrop of recent offloading and stricter enforcement, Naqvi said the system aims to save time and improve passengers' experience amid more than 727,000 Pakistanis migrating overseas in 2025.
- Passengers will complete immigration clearance in Pakistan before departure through the new pre-immigration clearance process, supported by Pre-Departure Facilitation Desks accessible in person and via helplines and email with details on the FIA website.
- Travellers will be allowed to exit UAE airports directly like domestic passengers after completing pre-departure clearance, eliminating the lengthy arrival immigration procedures and saving considerable time.
- If the pilot succeeds, authorities plan gradual expansion to more locations, following last week’s directives from Federal Interior Minister Naqvi and the Federal Investigation Agency to tighten airport screening.
