Severe Tropical Storm Opong
Tropical Storm Opong strengthens and may reach typhoon status before landfall, while Super Typhoon Nando is weakening and expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility soon.
- On Wednesday, PAGASA reported Tropical Storm Opong formed while Super Typhoon Nando maintained 185 kph winds with gusts up to 230 kph.
- Enhanced by both storms, the southwest monsoon `habagat` will produce scattered rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
- PAGASA tracked Opong about 855 kilometers east of northeastern Mindanao, moving west-northwest at 20 kph with 65 kph sustained winds and 80 kph gusts.
- The government has prepared P116 million in relief, and authorities warned of possible flash floods, landslides, and storm surges reaching 1 to 3 meters in storm surge warning areas, PAGASA said.
- On its current track, Opong is expected to make landfall over the Bicol Region by Friday, September 26, then cross Southern Luzon before exiting the PAR by September 27, 2025, though the track may still shift within the forecast cone.
