Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya Wins NBA Presidential Race, Becomes Second Female President
She won 47.18% of 26,106 votes after a 24-hour electronic ballot that was hit by glitches and a cyberattack, officials said.
- The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association announced Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya as the 33rd NBA president-elect on Sunday, securing 12,317 votes representing 47.18% of the total cast.
- ECNBA Chairman Aham Ejelam confirmed the electronic election, held over 24 hours from Saturday to Sunday, survived a coordinated cyberattack that caused glitches and delayed voting for over seven hours.
- Badejo-Okusanya defeated Lateef Akangbe, who polled 7,934 votes, and Olumuyiwa Akinboro, who secured 5,855 votes. General Secretary Afam O. Okeke and Treasurer Esther Ifeoma Jimoh were also elected to the national executive.
- Rejecting the results, Akangbe described the election as "shambolic" and a "shame to the Bar," alleging that technical failures prevented thousands of lawyers from voting, which he characterized as voter suppression.
- Badejo-Okusanya will be sworn in at the Annual General Conference scheduled for 21 to 28 August in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. NBA President Afam Osigwe promised a comprehensive review to strengthen future election processes.
