Over 1,200 killed in Haiti by drones, including 60 civilians, in less than a year: Human Rights Watch
Human Rights Watch documented 1,243 deaths and 738 injuries from drone strikes by Haitian security forces and contractors, with operations nearly doubling from November to January.
- Human Rights Watch said this week that between March 1, 2025 and January 21, 2026, drone strikes in Port-au-Prince and the West Department killed at least 1,243 people and injured 738.
- The Task Force, supported by Vectus Global and private contractors, operated outside Haiti's National Police oversight, as announced by Prime Minister Fils-Aimé last year.
- HRW's video analysis shows four geolocated videos from Port-au-Prince, including a June 17 live feed of drones striking in Martissant and Village de Dieu.
- HRW found that many victims were civilians, noting 17 children and 43 adults not believed to be gang members were killed, and at least 49 injured civilians faced limited justice access.
- HRW and its Americas director urged Haitian authorities and international partners to rein in security forces and private contractors, calling for independent investigations and reparations.
