- Officials say the refresh aims to protect Canada’s digital sovereignty and secure public trust in AI, with the Liberal government planning changes guided by business and civil society leaders.
- The task force will include about 20 members from industry, academia and civil society, with a mandate covering research, adoption, commercialization, infrastructure, skills and safety, and will make recommendations within 30 days.
- Both task force input and public feedback will shape a refreshed federal AI strategy, with public consultations starting at the start of October and Solomon naming members in Toronto on Friday.
- Federal support has included $443.8 million in renewed funding, with $185 million for commercialization programs, and the AI advisory council was recast in March to sustain institutional continuity.
