On this day in 1922, former Sunderland inside forward Ivor Broadis was born in Welling. He was the first manager to transfer himself to another club, when he joined Sunderland whilst being a player-manager at Carlisle United. Broadis, who was born in Poplar, London, was posted to Crosby-On-Eden, Cumbria towards the end of World War Two.
