Nigeria: Osun Police Declare Ex-NURTW Chief Wanted Over Killing of Adeleke's Ally

Police say six suspects have been arrested and a firearm recovered as investigators search for two principal suspects in the killing.

  • On Monday, Osun State Police Commissioner Ibrahim Zungura declared Nurudeen Alowonle and Adeyemi Ojo, known as Sibi, wanted for the September 13 killing of Olalekan Oyeyemi, an aide to Governor Ademola Adeleke, at Mayfair Motor Park in Ile-Ife.
  • Zungura reported that six suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack, with four identified as operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps assisting the State Criminal Investigation Department.
  • Police allege Alowonle and Ojo mobilized the attackers, with suspect Hammed Olalekan Dauda, known as Jagaban, confessing that Alowonle provided the firearm used in the assault.
  • Following the killing, Governor Adeleke suspended National Union of Road Transport Workers activities statewide and ordered rival groups to vacate motor parks, declaring there would be "no sacred cows" in the investigation.
  • The state enacted the Integrated Transport, Traffic and Park Management System Bill 2026 on October 5 to regulate garage operations, though the legislation faces constitutional disputes regarding local government authority.
