Oregonians Have Access to Full November Food Stamp Benefits, Kotek Says
Oregon Governor Tina Kotek declared hunger emergencies and authorized $6 million for food pantries and Tribal governments to ensure full SNAP benefits amid legal and shutdown challenges.
On Nov. 7, Oregon families began accessing full November SNAP benefits on their Oregon Trail Cards, with all recipients receiving their entire monthly benefit regardless of schedule.
On Nov. 6, U.S. District Judge John J. McConnell Jr. ordered the Trump administration to make full November SNAP payments within a day after Oregon joined 21 other states in suing, and the administration has appealed.
ODHS said its emergency preparations and vendor work enabled full payments because technical limits on partial uploads at the EBT vendor required issuing full benefits.
Emergency responders and pantries reported long lines, with one pantry seeing more than 100 people seeking aid, as Governor Tina Kotek authorized $5 million for statewide food pantries and $1 million to Tribal governments.
The USDA announced it will fully fund the SNAP program while the appeal is pending, but the court battle and shutdown create uncertainty for a program serving about 1 in 8 Americans.
