Operation Impact Returns as OPP Target Risky Driving Behaviours
OPP officers will target impaired, aggressive and distracted driving as 13 people died in roadway collisions in OPP jurisdictions last year.
The Ontario Provincial Police is joining police services across Canada for Operation Impact, a four-day national traffic safety campaign led by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police this Thanksgiving weekend.
Over the past 10 years, Thanksgiving weekends have recorded the second-highest number of roadway fatalities among all long weekends in Ontario, with alcohol and drug use remaining leading factors in collisions.
Officers will target high-risk behaviors including impaired, aggressive, and distracted driving while patrolling roads, trails, and waterways to prevent collisions and unsafe conduct.
Throughout the Upper Ottawa Valley, UOV OPP officers will be highly visible during the long weekend, focusing on education and enforcement to ensure families reach Thanksgiving destinations safely.
Anyone witnessing dangerous behavior should alert authorities via 911, as last year lives were lost in roadway collisions within OPP jurisdictions during the Thanksgiving period.
