This impact corresponds to about 36 million euros per day, or 1.5 million euros per hour, every day of the year, according to an estimate presented in the new report .Prosperity and Sustainability of Organizations – Report of the Cost of Stress and Psychological Health Problems at Work, in Portugal, of the Order of Portuguese Psychologists.
Productivity failure caused by mental health problems more than quadrupled since 2020: on average, each worker loses about 40 days of productivity per year. The Psychologists' Order warns that the problem has reached such a size that it can no longer be ignored, neither at human level nor in terms of the management and sustainability of companies.
Value still equals about 13.5% of all annual expenditure of these companies with wages and other social charges, reaching about 16.5% in small and medium-sized enterprises.
