A Battle for the Soul of the West

The assault on Enlightenment values is tearing both Europe and America apart.

Donald Trump's brutal policy seems to open a gap between Europe and America, which it seems difficult to fill in the future. The decisions of politicians partly reflect the aspirations of the populations they represent, but in part only. It is therefore useful to check how divergent American and European populations are in their religious, political and moral values.

Imagine a fortress under siege by the enemy. The defenders are exhausted, the enemy is pounding the gates with battering rams. There is a change of command in the castle and the new commander declares: The situation is bad, something must be done.
