Opera Adds Browser Connector Feature to Integrate AI Chatbots Into Browsers
The free feature lets users connect ChatGPT or Claude to open tabs and page content, as Opera expands MCP support beyond Neon.
- On Thursday, April 16, 2026, Opera launched the Browser Connector for Opera One and Opera GX, allowing users to integrate AI assistants like ChatGPT and Claude directly into live browsing sessions.
- Utilizing the open-standard Model Context Protocol, the feature enables AI models to access open tabs and page content, eliminating the manual context-recreation routine users previously endured.
- To enable the free tool, users navigate to Settings in their browser, search for "AI Services," and install the Browser Connector within the Early Bird testing environment.
- Mohamed Salah, senior director of product at Opera, stated the feature ensures "users aren't bound to a single company's ecosystem, but are instead free to combine the best tools for their specific needs."
- Following last month's MCP launch in Opera Neon, this expansion brings the technology to mainstream browsers, continuing Opera's open AI strategy maintained since integrating ChatGPT in early 2023.
