OpenAI Updating ChatGPT with a Smarter GPT-5.6 Sol and Unlimited Free Chats
OpenAI says the revised model will give more direct answers, and internal testing found factual errors were 68% less common.
On Thursday, OpenAI announced it is removing text-based chat limits for all free ChatGPT users while upgrading the GPT-5.6 Sol model for Plus and Pro subscribers.
Free users now access unlimited text chats powered by the GPT-5.6 Luna model, which replaces the previous default and includes a new Think button for complex reasoning tasks.
Subscribers receive an updated Sol with an adjustable slider controlling reasoning depth across web, mobile, and desktop; internal evaluations show Sol produces 68% fewer factual errors than prior versions.
These changes arrive as Apple prepares to integrate AI across operating systems, positioning ChatGPT's unlimited access to maintain its competitive edge among 1 billion weekly users.
Additionally, Adobe launched a unified plugin connecting ChatGPT to over 70 creative tools in Photoshop and Premiere, while the ChatGPT-powered Atlas browser shuts down soon in favor of Chrome extensions.
