OpenAI Takes on Meta with Always-on Dots Agent in Enterprise AI Push

  • OpenAI introduced Dots agents at DevDay this week, generating interest with an "always on" feature that monitors connected sources for updates even when users aren't actively working.
  • Proactive research enables Dots to perform Scheduled checks across connected apps like Gmail, Slack, or GitHub. The agents monitor for new information and maintain context between conversations automatically.
  • Operating in a read-only capacity, Dots cannot Control browsers, computers, or Send messages to other people. They are limited to reading information and taking private notes during proactive research tasks.
  • Business Premium and Pro users can access Dots across supported regions, excluding the European Economic Area and Switzerland. Additionally, Enterprise, Edu, and Healthcare workspaces have access to a beta version off by default.
  • The plugin catalog now supports over 4,000 apps, expanding potential integrations for these agents. As of Sept. 30, help pages do not yet list SEO or analytics tools as accessible options.
