OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic Get Green Light for Civilian AI Use in US; Soon Could Power Government Workdesks
UNITED STATES, AUG 5 – The approval allows federal agencies to quickly access AI models evaluated for security and bias, supporting the US AI action plan to maintain global leadership, GSA said.
- Approving AI vendors, the GSA on Tuesday added OpenAI, Google and Anthropic to its Multiple Award Schedule, enabling federal agency adoption.
- Following President Donald Trump’s executive orders, the 28-page AI action plan released last month mandates federal AI systems be built with freedom of speech and free from ideological bias.
- Evaluating the AI offerings, GSA tested ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude for performance and security, facilitating widespread adoption through MAS.
- Many agencies, including the Treasury Department and Office of Personnel Management, have already expressed interest, as Bloomberg reported the contracts allow rapid adoption.
- Supporting broader AI ambitions, GSA’s action helps US President Trump’s plan to strengthen national leadership, offering AI companies a trusted federal marketplace.
