OpenAI Commits S$300 Million to Grow Singapore's AI Capabilities

The partnership will create 200-plus forward-deployed engineering roles and expand AI training, workshops and tools for businesses, schools and public services.

  • On Wednesday, OpenAI committed more than $300 million to Singapore, launching its first overseas Applied AI Lab in partnership with the Ministry of Digital Development and Information to boost productivity gains.
  • Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced earlier this month that authorities would provide tools and support to ensure AI benefits are shared broadly as the technology reshapes the Singapore economy.
  • As part of the OpenAI for Singapore agreement, the company will launch a forward-deployed engineer programme to train mid-career software engineers, addressing a role seeing more than 700 per cent growth.
  • Through the AI for All pillar, OpenAI will collaborate with the education sector and startups, offering hands-on workshops and technical consultancy to increase access to frontier AI tools.
  • Separately on Wednesday, Google announced expanding its partnership with the Government, building on a 2022 agreement to equip researchers with AI-enabled tools and explore new research initiatives.
