Ontario will not compensate Greenbelt developers, housing minister says

Ontario Housing Minister Paul Calandra announced that the province will not compensate developers for lands that are being returned to the protected Greenbelt, following a flawed process that favored certain developers.
Last year, the province removed land from the Greenbelt as part of its plan to build 1.5 million homes by 2031. However, after receiving critical reports from legislative watchdogs, Premier Doug Ford apologized and decided to return the lands to the protected area.
The province is planning to introduce legislation that will require any future changes to the Greenbelt to be made through the legislature instead of through regulation, as was previously done.
