ONGC well fire video: Huge sky-high flames, thick black smoke after Andhra Pradesh's Konaseema gas pipeline leak

The gas leak and fire at ONGC's Mori-5 well during maintenance caused evacuation of residents within 1 km with no reported injuries, officials said.

  • On January 05, 2026, an ONGC-Rajamundry Asset well blowout at Irusumanda ignited a roughly 25-meter flame jet, causing a major fire in Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema district.
  • During a workover operation by Deep Industries Limited, PEC operator for ONGC's Rajahmundry Asset, repairs aimed to boost gas production at the Mori field.
  • Around 10 fire tenders are at the scene as District Collector R. Mahesh Kumar inspected the site; families from Mori and Irusumanda were evacuated, and three villages cleared with no injuries reported.
  • More clarity may emerge on capping the well over the next 24 hours, Mr. Mahesh Kumar said, as ONGC Crisis Management Teams coordinate with international well-control specialists for capping and casing-cutting.
  • Happening in a remote coconut plantation about half a km from habitation, the well holds a natural gas reserve expected to be more than 30 million cubic feet, with ONGC senior management mobilising additional equipment and planning an investigation once secured.
