If there ever was a friendship between Douglas W. and Jan B., two suspects in the high-profile art theft from the Assen museum, it's now over. During the second preliminary hearing in the criminal case, Douglas W. said he "had trouble sitting near Jan B.. I would have preferred to give him a few smacks."
Jan B., the third suspect in the Assen art theft from January of this year, was present at the second hearing. This caused some tension for another suspect, Douglas W., about whom Jan B. allegedly said he knew where the famous stolen gold helmet was.
One of the three main suspects in the sensational art theft at the Drents Museum plans to appear in court in Assen on Wednesday afternoon. Douglas Chesley W. (36) intends to attend the hearing, his lawyer says. Co-suspects Bernhard Z. (35) and Jan B. (20) will remain in their cells, according to their lawyers.
