Sudan: WFP Strongly Condemns Attack on Trucks in South Kordofan, Killing One Driver
WFP called for an impartial investigation after the attack on clearly marked humanitarian trucks, saying one driver was killed and food cargo was damaged.
On Saturday, October 3, 2026, an airstrike in South Kordofan killed a driver of two United Nations World Food Programme trucks transporting food aid between Dilling and Kadugli.
Fighting in the Kordofan region has intensified since late 2025, with one in five attacks in Sudan occurring there as the Sudanese Armed Forces and Rapid Support Forces battle for control.
The WFP stated the trucks were "clearly marked as humanitarian vehicles" during the strike; the agency did not identify those responsible but called for a prompt, impartial investigation.
Condemning the attack, the WFP urged all parties to respect international humanitarian law and protect civilians, emphasizing the "increasingly challenging security environment" aid workers now face.
Sudan faces a severe food crisis, with nearly 19.5 million people—about 41 percent of the population—struggling with acute shortages as more than five million face extreme, life-threatening hunger.
The Sudan Medical Network condemned the attacks and stated that they were in violation of international humanitarian law and that the suffering of civilians in conflict areas had increased.
