One injured following shooting at SUNY Morrisville, campus on lockdown

One non-student was shot in the neck at SUNY Morrisville's South Hall dormitory; about 2,000 students faced lockdown and canceled classes, authorities said.

  • On Monday, Nov. 3, 2025, SUNY Morrisville's South Hall dormitory was the scene of a shooting; the campus was locked down, evening classes canceled, and a 20-year-old male victim treated.
  • Around 3:16 p.m., the Madison County 911 Center logged a report of a man with a gunshot wound, and New York State Police arrived at approximately 3:45 p.m. after dispatchers reported a suspect running from South Hall dormitory.
  • At 5 p.m., alarm lights flashed and emergency vehicles blocked campus entrances as a SWAT team, bloodhound, New York State Police Bureau units, and K9s established a perimeter and escorted students while ambulance crews rushed the victim and canceled a helicopter airlift due to weather.
  • Shelter-in-Place orders were lifted for most of SUNY Morrisville, but Onondaga and South Hall residents must stay until searches finish, with Hochul briefed and NYSP assisting, Hochul said.
  • The New York State Police said the investigation is ongoing and the search continues, with NYSP leading the probe alongside SUNY Morrisville University Police and Madison County Sheriff's Office, adding there is no indication of an ongoing threat.
