Almost 40 per cent of the world's cancer cases could be avoided, according to a recent analysis conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO) and its International Centre for Research on Cancer (IARC). The study, based on data covering 185 countries and 36 types of cancers, highlights the determining weight of well-identified risk factors, including tobacco, alcohol, certain infections, air pollution and physical inactivity.
