Video. France’s new €1 university meal scheme has attracted large numbers of students, with long queues reported at canteens in Paris. While some students welcome the cheaper meals, staff warn that the extra demand is putting pressure on space, equipment and staffing.
Since May, all students can have lunch at the university restaurant for one euro. A measure popularized by all but the staff unions denounce a lack of human and material means to respond to the drastic increase in the number of meals served. Example in Tours and Orléans.
