One dead and child injured as train hits car at level crossing
Police are investigating the crash and urging witnesses to come forward, while rail services between Preston and Blackburn remain disrupted.
- At 8.50am today, a train struck a car at the Station Road level crossing in Hoghton, Lancashire, killing one person and leaving a child with life-threatening injuries.
- Emergency services including British Transport Police, South Ribble Police, Fire, and Paramedics attended the scene, where several specialized clinical teams including a hazardous area response team and two air ambulances were deployed.
- A BTP spokesperson noted "there have been no other injuries reported from passengers on the train at this time," confirming the impact was isolated to the two vehicle occupants.
- South Ribble Police advised motorists to avoid the area as an investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances of the incident at the level crossing.
