Okanagan Pup Rescues Abandoned, Starving Kittens

KELOWNA, BRITISH COLUMBIA, JUL 18 – Laynee the pup rescued two starving kittens who were later cared for by the BC SPCA in Kelowna, where staff noted their pale gums but bright eyes.

  • On July 11, Laynee was let outdoors by her guardian, Brady Verhaeghe, she heard a faint meow and located a kitten.
  • Neighborhood absence of pregnant cats suggested abandonment, and Shannon Paille observed the kittens' condition, noting their extreme thinness and pale gums, yet she found them bright-eyed and hungry.
  • Brady Verhaeghe picked up the first kitten and heard a second faint meow, Laynee coaxed the other out over half an hour, and both kittens nestled into his arms.
  • After a few hours, Brady Verhaeghe brought the kittens to the BC SPCA in Kelowna, Kim Monteith said `The finder did the right thing for these underweight kittens`.
  • Laynee refused to return indoors after the rescue, people should `contact your local BC SPCA` for guidance, Kim Monteith.
