The cost of living for households is likely to increase significantly in less than two years. According to the latest calculations by the Czech National Bank, the introduction of allowances for heating buildings or transport will increase the prices of petrol, diesel or gas so much that overall inflation will rise by almost a percentage point. It is currently 2.7 percent.
Emission allowances already apply to the biggest air polluters, such as power plants, steel mills and cement plants. In 2023, a similar system (called ETS 2) for heating and transport, i.e. for suppliers of natural gas, coal and fuels, was approved by most EU countries in 2023, effective from 2027.
