Oilers Sign Finnish Forward Aku Raty to One-Year, Two-Way Contract
Aku Raty led Karpat with 57 points last season and gets another NHL chance after 120 AHL games.
The Edmonton Oilers signed Finnish forward Aku Raty to a one-year, two-way contract worth US$850,000 at the NHL level on Monday, adding the 24-year-old from Oulu to their prospect pool.
Raty's 57-point season leading Finnish Liiga team Karpat caught the attention of Oilers GM Stan Bowman, who targets skilled young Europeans aged 22 to 26 to address limited draft capital.
The forward posted 69 points across 120 AHL games with Tucson Roadrunners and Rockford IceHogs, earning praise for his speed and forechecking abilities despite accumulating a minus-3 rating over two seasons.
Raty's NHL opportunity comes after limited success: he appeared in just one game with Arizona on April 17, 2024, scoring four goals in 50 games before being traded to Chicago.
The signing extends Bowman's pattern of acquiring overseas prospects, following last season's successful signing of German centre Josh Samanski, and adds international experience as Raty represented Finland at the 2020 and 2021 world junior championships.
