US Rep. Max Miller sues his ex-wife for defamation in escalation of long-running divorce feud
The Ohio congressman seeks at least $25,000, saying his ex-wife and her lawyers spread false abuse claims to damage his reputation and campaign.
Rep. Max Miller filed a defamation lawsuit Wednesday in Cuyahoga County against his ex-wife, Emily Moreno, and her legal team, Andrew Zashin and Zashin Law, alleging they spread false abuse claims to destroy his reputation.
The action follows reports alleging Miller 'hurled' boiling water at Moreno, which he denies, amid a contentious custody battle involving their child.
Seeking at least $25,000 in damages, Miller claims the allegations cost him 'lost business opportunities' and 'reduced campaign contributions,' with outlets reaching 'circulation measured in the tens of millions.'
Moreno's spokesperson, Stefan Mychajliw, rejected the lawsuit Thursday, asserting Miller is using the 'same playbook' as in a 2021 case involving former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham.
Democrat Brian Poindexter is challenging Miller for Ohio's 7th Congressional District, while Miller's spokesperson noted Children and Family Services previously deemed earlier abuse allegations unsubstantiated.
