Cycling is a street sport and, as such, often faces surprising challenges. A press release issued by the Catalan government states that the Generalitat has requested the Tour de France to modify its route.
The Tour de France 2026 has modified the route of its second stage, scheduled for Sunday, July 5 between Tarragona and Barcelona, and will reduce its mileage by about 16 kilometers. The day, which initially had to be 182.4 kilometers, will finally pass to compete over 168.4 kilometers.
The organization modifies the route at the request of the Generalitat to avoid the passage through the Parc de Collserola, an area restricted by the outbreak of African swine fever, and guarantee public throughout the route
The second stage of Catalonia will modify the route to avoid crowds in the area affected by the disease
