Officer accused of sexual harassment at Christmas party to face misconduct hearing
Scott Chilton faces allegations of undisclosed sexual relationships and abusing his position, with potential breaches of police conduct standards identified by the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
- Later this month the Independent Office for Police Conduct confirmed former Hampshire and Isle of Wight Chief Constable Scott Chilton will face a gross misconduct hearing from January 26-29 at the Old Magistrates Court at Houghton Police Station, with proceedings starting at 9.30am.
- The watchdog opened its inquiry in February 2025 after allegations emerged, including an accusation raised during another officer's misconduct hearing and media reporting by the Daily Echo, and Scott Chilton resigned in April last year.
- Allegations detailed by the IOPC state Scott Chilton failed to disclose a previous sexual relationship during his application, `repeatedly and dishonestly` denied it, abused his position for sexual purposes, and sent inappropriate WhatsApp messages.
- The OPCC said it has agreed the IOPC findings mean Mr Chilton should face a disciplinary hearing, and the PCC must arrange proceedings with a disciplinary panel to assess allegations; an application seeks a private hearing and anonymity for the officer.
- Following Chilton's April retirement, the Daily Echo revealed the investigation, and Alexis Boon was appointed chief constable for Hampshire in August last year.
