TV watchdog opens investigation into Married At First Sight UK
The regulator is reviewing Channel 4’s handling of welfare complaints after multiple rape allegations and a BBC investigation involving at least two women.
On Monday, the UK broadcast regulator Ofcom launched an official investigation into the Channel 4 reality series Married at First Sight UK following a 'fairness and privacy' complaint.
This probe follows a May BBC Panorama documentary where two women alleged rape and a third claimed sexual misconduct by their on-screen partners, allegations all three men have denied.
Earlier this month, a former cast member was arrested on suspicion of rape and is currently on bail, while at least six former contestants are pursuing legal action against CPL Productions.
Channel 4 CEO Priya Dogra apologized to the women, stating she is "deeply sorry," as the broadcaster conducts a welfare review with findings due in the coming weeks.
While the broadcaster has not decided on the broadcast of the already-filmed 11th series, Ofcom will "urgently" consider whether further regulatory action is necessary following the welfare review.
