Odisha Police Achieves Milestone: Two Districts Naxal-Free
- Bhubaneswar, Mar 1: Odisha Police declared Bolangir district and Bargarh district 'Naxal-free' after 15 Maoists surrendered in Mahasamund district, Chhattisgarh, with Khurania saying, 'Now, Bolangir and Bargarh districts are officially declared Naxal-free.'
- The DGP said sustained joint operations, precise intelligence, coordinated central and State security forces, and local residents eliminated Naxal activity in the two districts.
- Both Bargarh and Bolangir are now peaceful, with the Gandhamardan hills spread over them, and around 25 Maoists remain active mostly in splinter groups in Kandhamal district under the Security Related Expenditure scheme.
- With this development, the number of Naxal-free districts rises to seven, three senior Odisha police officers attended the event, and the DGP congratulated officers and thanked the public for their support.
- ADG Sanjeeb Panda said officials noted the surrendered cadres were active in the Bargarh-Bolangir-Mahasamund belt, highlighting the regional scope of recent operations.
