Nvidia, Cisco, Oracle and OpenAI are backing the UAE Stargate data center project
- OpenAI, Nvidia, and other collaborators are working on a massive 5-gigawatt AI infrastructure facility located in Abu Dhabi as part of the Stargate initiative announced earlier in 2025.
- This project builds on OpenAI’s 2023 partnership with Abu Dhabi-based G42, amid U.S. Concerns over G42’s past ties to Chinese entities and national security issues.
- The campus will span an area of 10 square miles and require an amount of electricity comparable to that generated by five nuclear power plants, making it larger than any existing OpenAI or competitor data center.
- The CEO of OpenAI commended the UAE for its proactive discussions on AI, while G42’s CEO confirmed that the company has withdrawn all its investments in China and closed its physical operations there.
- The data center exemplifies growing U.S.-UAE AI cooperation aimed at accelerating American technology use globally and countering Chinese influence in AI markets.
