4 Calgary daycares linked to E. coli outbreak allowed to reopen at their discretion Monday, AHS says

  • The number of lab-confirmed cases of E.coli in Calgary has risen to 190, with 27 patients currently in hospital. The outbreak is believed to be linked to a shared kitchen used by 11 daycares, but four daycares have not had any cases.
  • There are currently 20 patients confirmed to have severe hemolytic uremic syndrome , a complication of E.coli infection.
  • Alberta Health Services has not yet identified the specific food item that is the source of the outbreak, but they continue to investigate. Four daycares without any cases will reopen on Monday, while the remaining seven will have closure orders rescinded on Tuesday pending clearance from health officials.
