NPPA caps trade margins for 137 non-scheduled anti-cancer drugs
On October 17, 2026, the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority capped trade margins at 30% for 137 non-scheduled anti-cancer drugs in India to improve medicine affordability and expand patient access to cancer treatments.
This intervention builds upon the success of a 2019 pilot program, extending the approach to a larger list of drugs recommended by an Expert Committee under the Directorate General of Health Services .
The regulatory move is expected to reduce the Maximum Retail Price of these anti-cancer medicines by up to 70%, depending on existing pricing structures, aiming to alleviate the financial burden on patients.
Manufacturers must report revised prices within seven days of the Gazette notification, with new rates effective from November 9 for all retailers and hospitals to implement.
Consumers can verify updated costs through the Pharma Sahi Daam app and NPPA website, while State Drug Controllers will monitor compliance to ensure affordable access to treatments.
