The proportion of tobacco products coming from the Republic of Moldova and arriving on the illegal market in Romania has fallen by 8.7 percentage points in just a few months, according to a study carried out by Novel Research. In the first six months of 2026, the Customs Service documented four criminal groups, started two criminal cases and defused dozens of attempts to smuggle cigarettes.
