North Carolina Woman Missing in Grenada
Authorities are searching Grenada’s southern coastline as police and volunteers look for the 44-year-old North Carolina tourist.
Elizabeth Waddell, 44, disappeared while visiting Grenada last week, prompting an extensive coastal search. She was last seen at Grand Anse Beach in Saint George's on Wednesday, according to the Royal Grenada Police Force.
While staying at an Airbnb in Grand Anse, Waddell went for a swim, leaving her friend to discover her towel on a pier later. The friend reported her missing after she had been gone for several hours.
Authorities requested that fishermen and boat operators assist in the search along the southern coastline. Officials noted discrepancies in her description, with reports fluctuating between 5 feet and 5-foot-5 and varying mentions of blonde or pink hair.
Cailen Waddell, the missing woman's husband, shared on Facebook that "I am on my way there now to help search," urging supporters to keep his wife in their thoughts. He is traveling to the island to assist in locating her.
The State Department confirmed it is aware of reports regarding the missing American and is coordinating with local authorities in Grenada. Police continue investigating the disappearance as search efforts remain active across the island.
